League’s friend of the forest, Ivern, could be up for some nerfs, according to a recent post on the official League forums.
“We’re watching Ivern,” Andrei “Meddler” van Roon, Riot’s lead champion designer, confirms in the post. “He’s a possible future nerf candidate but not one we’re confident we need to hit at present.”
His Ultimate is one of the champions strongest abilities. Ivern can summon a AI Sentinel called Daisy to fight with him. Daisy will send out a shockwave if she attacks the same champion three times in a row and can move around the feel.
Ivern can cause chaos to certain team compositions, with his ultimate, Daisy, being the main source of anarchy. Daisy can act as a shield against poke compositions and tank-up turret shots during teamfights. The knock up ability is just the icing on the cake.
Ivern has a 56 percent win rate in League as of March 17. In competitive play, Ivern has won over 59 percent of the 49 games he has been involved in such , in the Spring Split across the LCS having a massive 78 percent kill participation across the board.
“Ivern also looks like he’s potentially just too strong in general,” Meddler said. For him, the champion is very fickle. The team needs to be “careful using winrate as too much of an argument” when debating which champions should be nerfed in future patches. Too many champions in the past have been nerfed beyond repair and dropped off the competitive scene as a result—like Aatrox, who is only now seeing changes to bring the champion back to life.
Ivern’s nerf would bring some stability as Riot continues to balance its game, to give ADC’s and squishy champions a chance to fight back in the later stages.
