Udyr, Sejuani, and Volibear gain added backstory in a new short story published by Riot Games earlier today.
Titled Silence for the Damned, this short story written by Riot’s senior narrative designer Odin Shafer, details Udyr and Sejuani’s conquest over a nearby city. In preparation for this conquest, Udyr and Sejuani seek the help of Volibear, given the title “bear of storms and wilds” by Udyr.
The story’s description of Volibear is quite different to the character currently in the game, with the narrator describing Volibear as having four eyes, and half of his face “stripped of flesh.” Although still of the Ursine tribe, Volibear’s depiction in the story is much more menacing and freighting than the character described in his current biography.
This new depiction of Volibear may be a teaser for his reworked, which was leaked at the end of 2018 in a Reddit post which has since been deleted. The leak accurately predicted the Kayle rework, as well as this year’s Lunar Revel Skins.
Being Silence for the Damned’s protagonist with most of the story taking place from his perspective, it is unclear if Udyr will also be getting some sort of update, whether visual or ability wise.
In addition to Silence for the Damned, Riot also released updated lore pages for Kayle and Morgana alongside the reveal of the two champions’ reworks.
Riot have yet to reveal if either Volibear or Udyr will be getting any updates in the future. The next champion planned to receive a rework according to Riot’s roadmap is Mordekaiser.
