The new High Noon skins came with their own story, and it’s one of Riot’s best

We’re sure there are League of Legends fan fictions out there. There’s probably some about the Yordles in Bandle City, some about Irelia in Ionia, and more about Garen and Katarina than we can count. Now imagine there was one that took the champions of League and flung them into a supernatural Wild West, complete with demons, devils, and six-shooters. Now imagine a fan fiction like that, but really well-written.

Lo and behold, that’s essentially what Riot produced today alongside the release of the new High Noon skins for Lucian, Thresh, and Urgot. Typically, stories published on Universe, League’s one-stop-shop for lore, are based on champions and regions of Runeterra.

This one, called The Man with the Grinning Shadow, was written about skins, or rather, the alternate reality in which the skins exist.

We won’t ruin the story for you, and also it’s pretty long and we don’t want to get into all the details, but it’s about Lucian. Well, sort of. It’s about a half-demon Lucian who struck a deal with a devil and is now seeking peace and, more importantly, a means in which to end that devil. It’s a gripping story complete with undead, demons, steampunk, an old western movie, and romance tied together into a single package, and it all works surprisingly well together.

Riot has been popping more and more lore out than ever before this year, with this western tale following a series of stories written about Nunu’s recent update. With a Wild West fan fiction now in the books, we’re hoping the next one will be an inside scoop on the inner workings of Beemo’s bee colony. Now that’s what the people really want.
