After taking a week off from competitive play, G2 Esports’ star AD carry Perkz said today he’s returning to the team’s starting lineup for week five of the 2020 LEC Summer Split.
Two weeks ago, Perkz announced that he was taking a step back from professional League of Legends play because he was “having a bit of a hard time dealing with stress.” This announcement also came only a few weeks after he shared the news of his father’s death.
As a result, the team moved substitute ADC P1noy into the starting lineup for week four. The 24-year-old veteran played against Misfits Gaming and Excel Esports. G2 won against Misfits but faltered against Excel.
Perkz’s teammates were supportive of his decision to step down for a week since they’re also trying to avoid burnout this split. In a post-game interview, Perkz’s superstar teammate and jungler Jankos revealed that G2’s roster has been taking both the 2020 Spring and Summer Splits a lot easier. He said they aren’t playing as much solo queue as before, too.
This week, Perkz will be returning to a couple of tough matches with MAD Lions—who are tied for first place in the LEC—and Origen, who recently announced the addition of veteran support Jactroll to its starting lineup. G2 are tied for third place with Misfits in the regular season standings, sporting a 5-4 record.
You can catch G2 in action when the LEC returns on Friday, July 17.
