CLG picks up Damonte as new starting mid laner for 2021 LCS Summer Split

Damonte last played for 100 Thieves in the 2021 Spring Split.

It’s been a difficult year for CLG’s League of Legends team, but the org is now making a roster switch. CLG is benching LCS veteran Pobelter and starting former 100 Thieves mid laner Damonte for the upcoming weekend of games, the team announced today.

The storied organization has been floundering for quite some time now, with 2021 being one of its most tumultuous years yet. Through both the 2021 Spring and Summer Splits, the team holds a disappointing 10-26 record, even though they have some of the most experienced players in the league.

With well-known names like Broxah, WildTurtle, Finn, Smoothie, and Pobelter, many League fans believed that this team could become a dark horse roster for the playoffs since almost every player on the squad has plenty of experience with pressure-filled situations from competing in the postseason to attending high-stakes international tournaments. After six weeks, however, it was clear that the lineup wasn’t clicking.

This could also be one of many moves that might be taking place in an effort to right the ship, especially after the org posted a now-deleted video of a “private team meeting” where CLG’s general manager Tafokints revealed that there was going to be roster swaps due to a lack of positive results.

The video was released to widely negative responses from the League community, who criticized the team’s decision to make such a private and saddening moment public. It also didn’t help that this serious video had multiple Bud Light sponsorship logos edited over the footage. As a result, CLG deleted the video and delivered an apology.

As for Damonte, the 23-year-old will be making his 2021 Summer Split debut after leaving 100 Thieves in May. He’ll be kicking off the split this weekend with tough games against Team Liquid, Cloud9, and Immortals. Pobelter, on the other hand, has not said anything yet about his future in the league.

You can watch Damonte and CLG in action when the 2021 LCS Summer Split resumes on Friday, July 16.
