After going 14-4 in the 2019 Spring Split, Cloud9 have solidified themselves as a team to be feared in the LCS. Although their team is made up of multiple great players and stars, recognition has to be given for the man behind the scenes, Bok “Reapered” Han-gyu.
As a result of Cloud9’s great success this split, Reapered has won Coach of the Split honors for the spring. He’s been one of the best coaches over the past couple of years and has helped lead Cloud9 to momentous heights during his time with the team.
This split, he had to help Cloud9 regroup after losing one of their cornerstone players, Nicolaj Jensen. It seemed dire for Cloud9 as they played around the superstar mid laner and his exceptional play for almost three years. Reapered looked at the situation and built another system for the team to work around—and with new mid laner Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer, he’s built a powerhouse team.
Cloud9 only dropped four games this entire split and went on an eight-game win streak between weeks three and six. The only teams Cloud9 lost to were CLG, Echo Fox, and Team Liquid. In fact, they haven’t beaten Team Liquid this season, and should look forward to taking revenge—if they can get past TSM today.
TSM have looked like one of the hottest teams in the region. They eased past Echo Fox in the quarterfinals, and look poised to get back to the top of the North American scene. Cloud9, however, have beaten TSM twice this split and should be ready to beat them again in their best-of-five series today, starting at 4pm CT.
