PlayStation is turning back the clock in the best way possible for the console’s 30th anniversary by releasing an entire line of consoles and controllers inspired by the PS1 that started it all.
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection is a gorgeous, retro tribute to the original console, featuring the same color scheme of the PS1 across a number of products, and the supplies will be especially limited to mark the occasion.
Sporting the same gray color scheme as the PS1, along with PlayStation’s signature red, yellow, blue, and teal logo, the collection features the new PS5 Pro, plus the Digital Edition PS5, DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, and PlayStation Portal streaming device.
This collection is a direct hit to my feelings. I’ve owned every PlayStation console since I got the PS1 and Resident Evil 2 for my ninth birthday (I am old), and many of my gaming memories and roots can be traced directly back to that console. So, for this color scheme to make a comeback decades later is special.
There are several special details on the consoles, including the “PlayStation 30th Anniversary” text emblazoned on the front of it, a special logo on the front, and a texture within the inside of the console cover as well. The same texture featuring “30” and PlayStation’s iconic buttons can be found on the back of the DualSense controllers, too.
My favorite part, however, is the special USB-C controller cable that features the boxy connector on the console’s end. It’s truly just a beautiful, nostalgic trip down memory lane for elder gamers like myself, and it will take all of my strength to not purchase several of these items.
All of the special 30th Anniversary Collection items will be extremely limited, and pre-orders will go live on Sept. 26, so make sure to have your funds in order by then because you can bet that these will not be cheap.
