Genshin Impact teases collaboration with McDonald’s

It looks like fans of fast food and gacha finally found some common ground after Genshin Impact teased a new collaboration with everyone’s favorite golden arches.

Fans of Genshin Impact are no stranger to sprawling ad campaigns that include their favorite fictional characters exploring modern-day businesses. Now it looks like these elemental wielders will visit McDonald’s, and may just bring back some juicy rewards.

The collaboration was teased via a series of posts from the official Genshin and McDonald’s X (formerly Twitter) accounts. The first post was a cryptic note featuring different items found throughout Teyvat. By using the first letter of each item posted, users on X quickly discovered that the note spelled out McDonald’s.

Shortly after this discovery, McDonald’s posted their own message asking travelers to complete a daily commission. The account also changed its profile photo and header to iconic locations found throughout Genshin, dispelling any lingering rumors about the validity of the collaboration.

While a brand deal with McDonald’s may seem strange at first glance, many long-term members of the game’s community have been creating memes surrounding the famous fast-food franchise. Just check out this post under McDonald’s collaboration announcement, which features Zhongli summoning a Big Mac instead of a meteor. Perhaps the jokes and drive-through-themed profile pictures finally caught the attention of developers or McDonald’s executives.

Surprisingly, this isn’t Genshin‘s first soiree with a fast-food franchise. The gacha previously collaborated with Kentucky Fried Chicken, where customers could purchase a meal for rewards like Primogems and a unique red-and-white glider. While the collaboration was received well by fans, it was only available in select countries. Now that Genshin is collaborating with McDonald’s, fans are hopeful any rewards will be available worldwide.

It is unclear if the collaboration will include similar rewards, but McDonald’s has stated that more details will be revealed on Sept. 17.
