Nintendo in the U.K. are hosting the first online qualifier event for the 2018 Splatoon 2 U.K. Championship on Aug. 18. The winners get an entry into the grand finale this November and a shot at the U.K. crown. The team that goes on to win the grand finals will represent the U.K. in the annual Splatoon 2 European Championships in Spring 2019.

The news follows Nintendo pushing Splatoon 2 esports pretty hard these past few months. Last month Nintendo of Japan announced a partnership with the Nippon Professional Baseball league (NPB), the highest level of baseball in Japan, to create a brand new esports series based around Splatoon 2.

The series is set to begin in Spring 2019, and will feature 12 teams of four players based on the 12 professional teams in the league. Prizes and scheduling is still to be announced.

Teams looking to take part in the U.K. qualifiers can sign up for the tournament over on ESLGaming’s website, and will need to be available for the entire day for a series of matches against other players. You will need to have a full team of at least 4 players and access to online to take part. Only players from the U.K. can take part.
