The eight qualified players for the first big prize money Hearthstone LAN of the year have been decided, with a mix of established pros and lesser-known players making the cut for the $20,000 LAN tournament.
The ESL Legendary Series finals will be held on Feb. 14-15 at ESL’s Burbank, Calif. studios.
With Hyerim “Magicamy” Lee of Tempo Storm, Johan “Darkwonyx” Hansson, “pinpingho” and “Zalae” already having qualified through the weekly tournaments, the final four places were filled this weekend. Janne “Savjz” Mikkonen of Team Liquid qualified through the final qualification tournament on Saturday, while Keaton “Chakki” Gill, Austin “SilentStorm” Li and “Weifu” claimed their spots through a final playoff.
As well as the $20,000 prize pool, ESL has set aside $2,000 per player to help with travel and accommodation for the LAN event in order to make sure that even lesser-known and unaffiliated players are not out of pocket by competing.
The Legendary Series is ESL’s first major venture into a Hearthstone LAN, though they hosted the Hearthstone World Championship NA qualifiers at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. ESL sources told The Daily Dot that plans were already in the works for a second season of the tournaments later in the year.
