By entering these qualifying events, players can earn Championship Points that help them gain entry to the Pokémon World Championships. No details have been revealed for Worlds 2019, but this year’s tournament has a $500,000 prizepool.

The trainers in North America with the most points at the end of the season will earn an invite to the World Championship finals. There they will compete against the best players from other regions around the world.

The locations and dates for the North American events are:

  • Sept. 14 to 16 – Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks, Oaks, PA
  • Oct. 6 to 7 – Memphis Cook Convention Center, Memphis, TN

  • June 1 to 2 – Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center, Madison, WI

This year was the competitive debut for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon, replacing Sun and Moon as the main game of the Pokémon World Championships. The format for the tournament was changed this year to give trainers the option of using any Pokémon from the National Pokédex to be used instead of just Alola Pokémon.

There were some restrictions on the Pokémon that trainers can choose from, however, with some legendary Pokémon banned entirely.

While next year’s format has not been confirmed yet, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon is expected to still be the main tournament game while trainers await the release of the 2019 core Pokemon RPG game on the Nintendo Switch.
