While other Call of Duty teams jockey for position ahead of the debut of the series’ latest iteration, Optic Gaming may have just established the title’s first dynasty with the acquisition of Matthew “Formal” Piper and Ian “Crimsix” Porter.

Rumors began circulating this morning when curious Redditors found dummy pages on Optic’s homepage for both players. These pages were quickly removed—but not before screengrabs were posted on Imgur. In response, Optic confirmed that Piper is indeed the team’s newest member and that Porter’s acquisition was pending contract buyout negotiations with Evil Geniuses.

The pair will replace Jordan “Proofy” Cannon and James “Clayster” Eubanks who have served under the Optic banner for several months. The two were positive in their departure and are currently in-demand free agents in a transfer market that is moving faster by the hour.

With their lineup now comprised of Piper, Porter, Seth “Scumpii” Abner, and Matt “Nadeshot” Haag, Optic stands as the most lethal team headed into the esports debut of Advanced Warfare. With other acquisitions and arrangements coming to light with each passing hour, however, it’s clear that the new-look Call of Duty scene is only beginning to take shape.
