The fighting game community has come together to make a tribute to a beloved fan.
Rooster Teeth’s Monty Oum, creator of animated series RWBY and noted fighting game fan, passed away on Feb. 1. To honor him, a group of fighting game community members came together as part of the #DoSomething creative movement that has circulated following Oum’s passing.
What they produced was something that couldn’t have come from anywhere else, a truly epic combo video featuring over 42 minutes of action.
The clip features a lot of games, both popular and obscure. There are modern titles still played competitively such as Street Fighter 4, Mortal Kombat 9, and Dead or Alive 5, and popular older titles like Street Fighter Alpha 3.
But it’s also got fighting games most viewers likely haven’t heard of or seen. There’s the 1998 Playstation game Cardinal Syn, or 2002’s X-Men Next Dimension. There are also some rather creative inclusions, such as Tales of Vesperia, an RPG with real-time combat that happens to include a flashy combo system.
It’s certainly one of the more interest combo videos to be produced in recent memory, and it’s a small but fitting tribute to a beloved, prominent member of the community.
