After almost being reversed swept in the finals by OpTic Gaming, eRa Eternity won the inaugural CWL Pro League Challenge and collected their $1,500 grand prize. Unfortunately, the finals weren’t without a bit of controversy.

In both Search and Destroy maps in this series, Maurice “Fero” Henriquez of eRa used Duelist, a basic training that allows a player to have akimbo pistols as a secondary. While using a sniper and the pistols, Fero compiled 14 kills on USS Texas SnD in a rout over OpTic. And in the final game of the series, Fero finished with 14 kills once again.

Although OpTic’s Ian “Crimsix” Porter tried to best Fero with his own strategy by equipping Duelist in game five, Fero shut Crimsix down and shot his corpse after doing so. Following the match, Fero revealed via Twitter that he and his team won’t be using the akimbo pistols anymore.

In the Pro League Challenge, eRa went through Lethal Gaming, CWL New Orleans champions Team Kaliber, and Next Threat to get to the finals. OpTic, on the other side of the bracket, defeated VexX Gaming, compLexity, and Echo Fox before facing eRa Eternity.

Both eRa and OpTic will resume play in Division A of the CWL Pro League tomorrow, Jan. 30. OpTic will attempt to defend their spot at the top of the standings, while eRa will try to move into the top four.

The games begin at 4pm ET and can be watched on MLG.com and Twitch.
