Evil Geniuses pulled off an incredible upset in the League Championship Series yesterday, beating down the defending champions Cloud9 in an action packed affair featuring nearly thirty total kills.

EG’s new marksman, Johnny “Altec” Ru, looked like a superstar as he posted a ridiculous 13/1/6 KDA line with the champion Twitch, backed by two impressive triple kills.

Cloud9 knew they had to shut down Ru in team fights to win the game, but the 17 year old marksman’s positioning was outstanding as he never left himself open to assassination by Hai Lam’s Kha’Zix or William “Meteos” Hartman’s Elise.

That allowed Ru to clean up in team fights with the insane damage of Twitch, like in this ace for EG at Dragon where Ru secured three kills.

Despite the ridiculous scoreline – 22 kills for EG against only 7 for Cloud9—the match was fairly close throughout most of the game. While EG managed to win every team fight decisively, Cloud9 kept the gold differential close with plays like a Baron steal by their playmaker Hartman.

But in the end, Cloud9 simply couldn’t stop Ru from decimating their team. In the final team fight, Cloud9 dove their whole team to finally kill the rat, but only after Ru put three of them down for their hubris.

The victory pulls EG to 2-5, in a three-way tie for last place in the league. But matches like this one show there’s hope that they may pull themselves out of relegation.

Cloud9 drops to 4-3, just behind the top three squads in the league. It’s a disappointing start to the season for them considering two of their losses are to those 2-5 teams, EG and Complexity.
