Former Team SoloMid AD carry Shan “Chaox” Huang is set for a return to competitive League of Legends following what sources close to the team say is a “successful trial period” with the CompLexity roster. The North American team found itself in need of a replacement AD carry recently after Robert “ROBERTxLEE” Lee parted ways with the squad.
Huang announced his decision to retire in June last year, but has since flirted with the idea of returning on a few occasions. In October 2013, he announced his desire to return, but then struggled to find a team that meet his requirements. A brief spell as a substitute for Team Coast led nowhere. And in May this year an aparent opportunity with Curse Academy collapsed amid reports of internal friction. Huang tried his hand at coaching, again with Team Coast, before quitting that role in July and again reiterating his desire to play competitively.
He currently finds himself in a three-way battle for the CompLexity AD carry role, fending off competition from Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes, currently with Denial eSports.West, and Joshua “Impactful” Alan Mabrey, formerly of Curse Academy. The team are looking to make a decision relatively soon as they want the roster settled for the NA Expansion Tournament.
A source close to the team says that Huang appears to be a lock for the position. “Stixxay is a talented player but has to split his time between practice and his studies,” our source says. “In these trials Chaox has performed better than Impactful, so it is almost certainly going to be him who gets picked up.”
