Football Manager is all about building a legacy, which can often expand into dozens of completed seasons on a single save. Waving goodbye to dozens of hours of in-game progress can be hard, but with Football Manager 2024’s improved functionality, you won’t have to.
The Football Manager video game series is celebrating its 20th anniversary and it’s looking to deliver the best experience possible to its faithful audience. The seemingly simplest solutions can often be the most important contributors to the fun factor and one such quality-of-life improvement will make Football Manager 2024 a much easier purchase for many players: the ability to transfer saves from the previous title.
Can you transfer FM23 saves to FM24?
If the positive tone didn’t already give it away, the answer is yes. You can transfer a Football Manager 2023 save to FM24 and continue right where you left off. There are next to no restrictions to this maneuver. The only major drawback is that you won’t be able to unlock any Football Manager 2024 achievements while playing an FM23 save.
That’s a minor price to pay for the immense comfort the new save transfer policy brings—a policy that smashes one of the biggest arguments against moving from one version of Football Manager to the next. We must stress that save transfers only apply for FM23 games, so you won’t be able to move your FM22 save over to FM24, for example. Perhaps multi-year transfers is a feature we’ll see in the future.
Don’t be alarmed if it’s taking longer to load your FM23 save in Football Manager 2024 the first time you try it—that’s normal. The initial data transfer is understandably slower than one that only takes place within FM24’s database. This slower load will only happen the first time you enter the saved game, so the process is very much similar to a game building shaders. FM24 features and functionality will work as normal with FM23 saves, just like they would with a regular saved game. The only discrepancy may come with some in-world data.
Football Manager fans have been asking for the ability to continue their careers from one version of the game to another, and on the series’ 20th anniversary, Sports Interactive delivered. If you were dreading the moment you’d have to abandon the save in which you brought Champions League glory to Watford, you can take a deep sigh of relief and win a few more CLs for the Hornets in Football Manager 2024.
