Cores are the rarest resource in Frostpunk 2, and unlike Food, Materials, or Oil, you can’t just mine them out of the ground. Instead, get ready to put on your winter coat and venture into the Frostland.
The main purpose of Cores in Frostpunk 2 is to upgrade the Generator in the Central District and build specialized buildings, such as the Deep Melting Drill to access infinite deposits or the Pressurized Coal Liquefactor to convert Coal into Oil.
Those buildings are crucial to ensuring you have enough resources to survive a Whiteout, so here’s how to get Cores in Frostpunk 2.
How to get more Cores in Frostpunk 2
The only way to get more Cores in Frostpunk 2 is to explore the Frostland and send expeditions. You can see potential findings of the expedition when inspecting the area. Most of the time, Cores appear in areas with Dangerous or Deadly threat levels. But these findings are never guaranteed, so be prepared to end up with nothing.
To explore Dangerous and Deadly areas, you need 20 and 25 Frostland Teams, respectively. Gather enough Frostland Teams and send them on an expedition. Once the expedition concludes, inspect the nodes in the new area to see if there are any Cores. You should also be prepared to repair your Logistics Districts as scouts will likely get injured or die.
You can also find Core deposits in colonies like Winterhome during the story. But Core deposits don’t spawn around your city, and you must still explore the Frostland to get them.
Because Cores are scarce in Frostpunk 2, I recommend only using them when necessary. Make the most of existing deposits and resources before investing in technology to access infinite deposits or convert fuel.
