Ninja eliminates Tfue in the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers

It wasn't an epic fight.

The clash between the top two Fortnite: Battle Royale streamers in a professional competition was fast.

Turner “Tfue” Tenney and Tyler “Ninja” Blevins fought each other yesterday during the week six World Cup Duos qualifier. And maybe “fight” is the wrong verb here since Ninja lasered Tfue without giving him a chance to recover or fire back.

We can only see the play from Tfue’s perspective since Ninja wasn’t streaming his qualifier matches yesterday. Tfue was trying to shoot someone in front of him, but far from his area. Ninja caught him from an odd angle and took him down quickly. While Tfue is down and his duo Dennis “Cloak” Lepore is trying to get him up, Ninja ran toward them and threw dynamite to finish him off and get the elimination.

The elimination forced cloak to keep playing the match on his own in the mid-game where he still tried to earn some points for his placement. Tfue and Cloak placed 13th in the qualifiers with 81 points, five less than Ninja and his duo Reverse2k. Both duos failed to get a spot in the Finals.

This play shows what professional Fortnite looks like in the mid-game: No build battles and no trap setups, just good positioning, rotation, and game awareness. The play that might’ve cost Tfue and cloak’s qualification happened due to a mistake Tfue made and due to Ninja’s game awareness, not because of fancy mechanical skills. Even though these skills are important in some early skirmishes, a moment of distraction might cost you the qualification for a tournament in high-level matches.

Tfue and cloak still have weeks eight and 10 of the Open Qualifiers to get a spot in the Fortnite World Cup Duos Finals in New York. If they get it, they’ll play in the finals from July 26 to 28.

Tfue has already qualified for the Solo Finals.
