Fortnite’s first update of season eight is set to come this Wednesday, March 6, in the early morning. Developer Epic Games has confirmed this will be the v8.01 update.
Epic revealed the information in a tweet this afternoon. “X marks the spot! Downtime begins tomorrow, March 6th.” All Fortnite servers should be offline at about 3am CT and be back in two hours if no big issues are found during the update. Epic usually releases the official patch notes a few minutes before the downtime begins.

This should be a very small update, since it follows huge changes that were introduced when season eight started last week with the v8.00 patch.
Players can expect the Buried Treasure item to be introduced in the v8.01 update tomorrow. We have yet to learn how it works, but it will likely show players where to find Legendary chests around the island that have high-rarity loot in them.
Two other confirmed changes are tweaks in audio cues, such as in footstep sounds and AR noises when shooting, and fixes in performance issues that a few console players have been experiencing since season eight released.
We might see these changes and a few others once the v8.01 releases early tomorrow.
