Fortnite: Battle Royale players were given a new in-game event this weekend. The Ice King, who was gathering power inside an ice sphere over Polar Peak, unleashed his power on the island, covering it in snow, releasing the evil power of the Ice Legion, and giving players the Ice Storm event.
A fan called JyeunJyeun imagined what happened before and after all this. They created a cinematic showing the Ice King before he appeared over Polar Peak, how characters who live on the island would’ve reacted to his appearance, and what players tried to do to stop his imminent release.
The Ice King seems to have reflected a lot before creating the ice sphere that protected him. He used the snow and ice surrounding his castle as a material to build his own ice cocoon. Characters who live on the island were sure something bad was coming as the weather warning popped up on TVs and the ice sphere started glowing with the King inside it.
Most people who were on the island knew they were doomed, and even the cute ice monster Trog started crying when he saw the floating sphere.
Then, panic took over. The islanders thought they could stop the Ice King by breaking the ice sphere with shots or even colliding an airplane with it. Nothing worked, and he eventually sent an ice storm that covered the island in snow and fog, while also bringing Ice Fiends to attack anyone on their path.
This cinematic takes advantage of holes developer Epic Games constantly leaves in the game’s lore. Some players love to understand what happened before in-game events, like when the Ice King covered the island in snow or what this Ice Storm event could mean to a very vague Fortnite lore.
Aside from one-time events, Epic rarely creates cinematics or extra content to explain what happened to the island and how events from previous seasons are related to new ones. Thankfully, we have creative players who fill some gaps and make the lore a bit more meaningful.
