The Pokémon Company has announced a brand-new worldwide circuit for its flagship fighting game, Pokkén Tournament DX for the Nintendo Switch.
Known as the 2019 Pokkén Tournament DX Championship Series, the circuit will host four international qualifiers in Australia, Germany, and North America. The top players from each qualifier will be invited to the World Championship in Washington, D.C. later this year.
Winners of each qualifier will also take home a host of prizes depending on the age of the individual. Those who compete in the Masters Division will be playing for cash prizes, while Senior Division players will walk away with Pokémon-themed swag.
At the World Championship, players in each division will be facing off for a prize pool worth over $20,000, as well as the world title. Registration, as well as information for all the events, can be found on the Pokémon Company website.
Pokkén has seemingly fallen out of favor with most tournament organizers—some majors aren’t even running it at all. The Pokémon Company, however, is still very much supporting it and shows no signs of dropping the game any time soon.
