Which of the Evolution Championship Series (Evo) finals has been the most-viewed since the tournament was held earlier this month? You’ll probably need more than a few guesses to come up with the answer.
The most popular final wasn’t even part of Evo’s 2014 line-up. It was for the Mortal Kombat 9 side tournament, an interesting fact brought to light by lead Mortal Kombat developer Ed Boon.

The video features an extended finals set with multiple characters making an appearance, including Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and Kabal.
The set currently has nearly 270,000 views, a number likely to continue to rise now that Boon and others have begun spreading the word.
For comparison, the finals of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which was the most heavily watched event during the live broadcast of Evo, sit at about 94,000 views.
While developer NetherRealm Studios wasn’t able to field quite as popular a hit in their next game, the DC-licensed Injustice: Gods Among us, expectations are already high for the next addition in the Mortal Kombat franchise, the aptly-named Mortal Kombat X.
The newest entry in the franchise was officially unveiled at this year’s E3, and is tentatively set for a 2015 release.
