Dota 2 Patch 7.37 notes: Medusa rework, Facet and Innate changes headline surprise update

Valve has dropped Dota 2 patch 7.37 (right in the middle of a tournament, no less) on July 31 jam-packed with massive changes to Hero Facets, Innate abilities, and even a hero rework for a hypercarry who has been mediocre of late.

Valve has continued to make huge changes to Dota 2 as Crownfall rolls on, but none have been quite as severe as today’s update which has seen items, Facets, and hero abilities get the chop entirely.

Everyone’s favorite Gorgon has received an unexpected rework with Dota 2 patch 7.37. Mana Shield is now entirely Innate, meaning it cannot be leveled, and instead boosts Mana Shield’s effectiveness per hero level.

Medusa’s new ability is Gorgon’s Grasp, which sees her fire a volley of arrows into the air that land in three groups in a line, Enemies hit take poison damage over time and are rooted, plus they cannot turn. Her new Facet Venomous Volley plays into this poison-root combination, with every fifth attack enhanced to slow movement speed, attack speed, and even cast speed.

She’s enjoyed a middle-of-the-park win rate these past few patches, according to Dotabuff, but with a new ability and a focus on building attack speed for the new Facet, expect this to fluctuate in the coming week. Here’s hoping she isn’t quite as scary as her previous few forms.

Numerous Hero Facets, Innates adjusted or removed entirely

We wouldn’t call these next changes a rework like for Medusa, but a few heroes will have new choices pre-game for Hero Facets with 7.37. Nine other heroes apart from the Gorgon have had an old Facet removed and a new one added: Bristleback, Death Prophet, Doom, Earth Spirit, Huskar, Lone Druid, Lycan, Visage, and Void Spirit.

Patch 7.37 also brings 21 new Innate abilities and many Innate adjustments as Valve continues to tinker with the system. Time to hit the books and study up again, Dota players!

Teleport, Break, Block, and Reflect keywords refined

Patch 7.37 also refines a few important keywords and abilities in Dota, and clearly outlines what is affected by interacting with these keywords. Ability tooltips have been updated to reflect these changes, so it’ll be easier to know exactly which passives won’t work when someone applies Break to you, for example.

Abilities applied with attacks will no longer be reflected or blocked either. Valve is making it clear ability attacks shouldn’t be absorbed by Linken’s Sphere or bounced back to sender via a well-timed Lotus Orb, and that most of this interaction is limited to targeted spells instead. General updates

  • An Area of Effect icon has been added to all tooltip values that are affected by Bloodstone and other AoE increases.
  • The Mines map aura: Mighty Mines health regen aura decreased from seven to five.
  • The Well map aura: Well Wishes mana regen aura decreased from 1.5 to 1.2.
  • Starting from his second death, Roshan now always drops Roshan’s Banner.
  • Starting from his third death, Roshan now drops Refresher Shard and Cheese during daytime or Aghanim’s Blessing during night time.
  • Teleport time to Roshan’s outposts decreased from six to four seconds.
  • A full rework of the Teleport, Break, Block, and Reflect keywords and their effects can be found here.

Neutral creeps

Harpy Stormcrafter

  • No longer always cast Chain Lightning if attacked by lane creeps when pulled.

Giant Wolf

  • Intimidate: Total Attack Damage Reduction increased from 50 percent to 60 percent.

Hellbear Smasher

  • Death Throe: Power: Base Attack Damage Bonus increased from 50 percent to 60 percent.

Hellbear

  • Death Throe: Rush: Attack Speed increased from 100 to 120.

Ancient Granite Golem

  • Granite Aura: Bonus HP Percentage increased from 15/16/17/19 percent to 16/17/18/19 percent.

Ancient Rock Golem

  • Weakening Aura: Armor Reduction increased from 2/3/4/5 to 3/4/5/6.

Item updates

Roshan’s Banner

  • Effect radius increased from 600 to 650.

Bracer

  • No longer provides 3/6 damage.
  • Now provides 50/100 health.

Bloodstone

  • Spell Lifesteal bonus decreased from 30 percent to 20 percent.
  • Bloodpact spell lifesteal multiplier increased from 2.5 to four.
  • Bloodpact duration decreased from six to five seconds.

Blooodthorn

  • Soul Rend bonus damage on silenced targets from non-heroes attacks decreased from 50 to 25.

Crimson Guard

  • Guard cooldown increased from 35 to 40 seconds.
  • Guard additional damage block based on caster’s max health decreased from 2.5 percent to 2.2 percent.

Dagon

  • Spell Lifesteal bonus rescaled from 15 percent to 15/16/17/18/19 percent.

Eternal Shroud

  • Eternal Endurance magic resistance per stack decreased from four percent to 3.5 percent.

Ethereal Blade

  • Ether Blast projectile speed increased from 1,275 to 1,400.

Guardian Greaves

  • Mend cooldown increased from 40 to 45 seconds.

Heart of Tarrasque

  • Max Health Regen bonus decreased from 1.6 percent to 1.4 percent.

Heaven’s Halberd

  • Slow Resistance bonus increased from 20 percent to 25 percent.
  • Disarm mana cost decreased from 100 to 75.

Lotus Orb

  • Echo Shell duration decreased from six to five seconds.

Manta Style

  • Mirror Image illusion duration decreased from 20 to 18 seconds.

Pavise

  • Health bonus increased from 150 to 175.

Pipe of Insight

  • Barrier duration decreased from 12 to 10 seconds.
  • Insight Aura magic resistance decreased from 10 percent to eight percent.

Solar Crest

  • Recipe cost decreased from 600 to 500; total cost decreased from 2,700 to 2,600.

Shadow Amulet

  • Fade no longer requires the target to remain still.
  • Fade no longer refreshes its cooldown if cast on self.
  • Fade now slows the target by 35 percent while invisible.
  • Fade can now be dispelled.
  • Fade cooldown increased from seven to 18 seconds.
  • Fade duration decreased from 15 to 3.5 seconds.

Spirit Vessel

  • Recipe changed. Now requires Urn of Shadows, Vitality Booster, and a 900 gold recipe; total cost unchanged.
  • No longer provides six All Attributes. Now provides 375 Health.
  • Soul Release cooldown increased from seven to ten seconds.
  • Soul Release damage per second decreased from 35 to 25.
  • Soul Release health gain reduction increased from 45 percent to 50 percent.

Urn of Shadows

  • Recipe changed. Now requires Sage’s Mask, Ring of Protection, Fluffy Hat, and a 280 gold recipe; total cost unchanged.
  • No longer provides two All Attributes. Now provides 125 Health.
  • Soul Release cooldown increased from seven to 10 seconds.

Neutral item updates

Trusty Shovel

  • Dig cooldown no longer ticks down if the Shovel is not in the neutral slot.
  • Always digs up a Water Rune when used in the river.

Fairy’s Trinket

  • Removed from the game.

Ironwood Tree

  • Returning as a Tier One Neutral item.
  • Provides five to All Attributes. Use: Plant Tree. Plants a happy little tree that lasts for 20 seconds. Cooldown: 15 seconds.

Pig Pole

  • All Attributes bonus decreased from five to four.
  • Pig, Out! bonus movement speed increased from 10 percent to 15 percent.

Iron Talon

  • Returning as a Tier Two Neutral item
  • Provides 20 Attack Speed and four Armor. Active: Chop. Targets a non-player enemy unit to remove 80 percent of its current HP. If cast on a tree, instantly destroys it. Cooldown: 20 seconds. Tree Cooldown: Four seconds.

Philosopher’s Stone

  • Now has 750 charges, and depletes a charge every time it grants gold to the owner. When all charges are depleted, the item is destroyed and the owner receives an additional 375 gold.

Pupil’s Gift

  • Attribute bonus for Universal heroes increased from seven to eight.

Vambrace

  • Now is a Tier Three Neutral item.
  • Main Attribute bonus increased from eight to 10.
  • Other Attributes bonus increased from two to four.
  • Strength Magic Resistance bonus increased from eight percent to 10 percent.
  • Agility Attack Speed bonus increased from 10 to 15.
  • Intelligence Spell Amp bonus increased from six percent to eight percent.

Ogre Seal Totem

  • Now is a Tier Four Neutral item.
  • Strength bonus increased from 10 to 12.
  • Ogre Seal Flop cooldown decreased from 40 to 35 seconds.
  • Ogre Seal Flop damage increased from 150 to 250.
  • Ogre Seal Flop can now change direction while flopping with a reduced turn rate.

Martyr’s Plate

  • Removed from the game.

Hero updates

Abaddon

  • Font of Avernus Innate ability removed.
  • New Innate: Withering Mist
    • Passive, can’t be leveled up.
    • Damaging enemies applies the Withering Mist debuff for five seconds. Affected enemies have their HP regeneration, healing, lifesteal, and spell lifesteal reduced by 35 percent if they are below 40 percent HP.
  • Borrowed Time
    • Cooldown increased from 80/70/60 seconds to 90/80/70 seconds.
  • Talents
    • Level 20 Talent Aphotic Shield Barrier Amount decreased from 100 to 80.

Anti-Mage

  • Base health regen increased from 0.75 to one.
  • New Innate: Persecutor
    • Passive, scales with Mana Void.
    • Attacks slow enemies based on how much mana they are missing. 12.5/15/17.5/20 percent min slow at 50 percent mana, up to 25/30/35/40 percent maximum slow at 0 percent mana. Slow Duration: 0.75 seconds.
  • Mana Break
    • No longer an innate ability
    • Mana Burned per hit rescaled from 16/23/30/37/44 to 25/30/35/40.
    • Max Mana Burned per hit rescaled from 0.8/1.6/2.4/3.2/4 percent to 1.6/2.4/3.2/4 percent.
  • Blink
    • Aghanim’s Scepter upgrade reworked. Reduces cooldown by one second. After casting Blink, your next Mana Break within five seconds is empowered, burning an additional 20 percent max mana and preventing the target from regenerating or gaining mana for six seconds. This debuff is undispellable.

    • Level 15 Talent 40 percent Slow on Fully Mana Drained targets replaced with 10 percent Persecutor Max Movement Slow

  • Rolling Boulder
    • Damage increased from 60 to 60/70/80/90.
  • Magnetize
    • Damage per second increased from 40/80/120 to 45/85/125.

Earthshaker

  • Slugger
    • Knockback effect is now applied on any kill made by an Earthshaker’s ability, not just Enchant Totem.
  • New Innate: Spirit Cairn
    • Passive, can’t be leveled up
    • When Earthshaker dies, a 75-radius fissure is created where he died. This fissure blocks movement, provides vision, and allows Earthshaker to gain experience around it.
  • Aftershock
    • No longer an innate ability
    • Damage rescaled from 35/70/100/130/160 to 70/100/130/160.
    • Duration rescaled from 0.5/1/1.1/1.2/1.3 to 1/1.1/1.2/1.3 seconds.

Elder Titan

Kunkka

    • Taking damage from a hero, building, or Roshan that would reduce Kunkka below 65 percent health automatically triggers Admiral’s Rum over 10 seconds, providing 10 percent bonus movement speed and delaying 20 percent of the damage taken. When in ranged form, Troll Warlord has a 20 percent chance to maim his enemies, slowing their movement speed by 8/16/24/32 percent and attack speed by 8/16/24/32 for 0.8/1.2/1.6/2 seconds and dealing 5/10/15/20 bonus physical damage.
  • Whirling Axes (Ranged)
    • Axe Damage decreased from 80/100/120/140 to 60/80/100/120.
  • Fervor

    • When attached to a carrier, ward health is now also increased by 1/1.5/2/2.5 percent of the carrier’s max health.
  • New Innate: Septic Shock
    • Passive, can’t be leveled up.
    • Venomancer’s attacks deal extra magical damage based on how many debuffs the attack target has. Only counts debuffs from Venomancer and his Plague Wards. Base Damage per debuff: 10 percent.
    • Can be upgraded with Aghanim’s Scepter. Increases Septic Shock base damage per debuff from 10 percent to 20 percent. Plague Wards also deal Septic Shock damage based on their attack damage.
  • Poison Sting

    • Visage’s ability cooldown durations are reduced as long as he’s not taking damage. Grants a stack every two seconds that Visage does not take damage. Each stack grants two percent cooldown speed with a max of 10 stacks. Stacks fade after two seconds upon taking any damage.
  • Gravekeeper’s Cloak
    • No longer an innate ability.
    • Damage Reduction per layer rescaled from 4/8/12/16/20 percent to 8/12/16/20 percent.
    • Layer Recovery Time rescaled from 7/6/5/4/3s to 7/6/5/4s.

Void Spirit

      • Upon exiting Dissimilate, Aether Remnants are created at the three portals furthest from Void Spirit that last four seconds. No effect if reassembling from the center portal. Remnants face towards the center portal and have reduced pull duration and damage. Remnant Effectiveness: 60 percent
      • Aether Remnant Watch Distance Endpoint is always fixed, meaning that increased Watch Distance will spawn the Remnants further away from the center portal.
  • Resonant Pulse
    • Now grants physical damage barrier. Base Damage Barrier: 25/50/75/100. Barrier Amount per hero hit: 35/50/65/80.

Warlock

  • Shadow Word
    • Heal/Damage rescaled from 16/24/32/40 to 15/25/35/45.

Weaver

    • Every time Weaver casts an ability, he gains 50 attack range for seven seconds. This effect stacks independently.

    • Geminate Attack Damage rescaled from 0/20/35/50/65 to 20/35/50/65.

Windranger
