Renegades and TyLoo qualify for the FACEIT London Major

Renegades and TyLoo have secured spots at the upcoming Valve Major, FACEIT London, by placing top two in the Asia Minor.

Although the competition wasn’t as rigorous as other Minor tournaments, like those for the American and European regions, the two teams have made it to their second consecutive Valve Major tournament in a row. This will be Renegades’ third Major in history and TyLoo’s second, thanks to the controversially easy Asia Minor route they took.

On the road to qualification, Renegades were surprisingly upset by SZ Absolute in round 30 of their winners’ match. That put them against BOOT-dreamScape in their group decider, which they swept with crushing scorelines. Despite their decent performance in the group stage they were defeated by their toughest competition, TyLoo, in the first round of the playoffs 2-1. It was an uphill battle for Renegades from the losers’ bracket, but they managed to win vs. SZ Absolute (2-1) and Australian counterpart Tainted Minds (2-0).

TyLoo’s path through the Minor, on the other hand, was much simpler compared to Renegades. The Chinese powerhouse beat 5Power Gaming (Inferno 16-11) and Tainted Minds (Mirage 16-2) to move on to the playoffs. After taking down Renegades in three maps they swept Tainted Minds 2-0 in their rematch (Cache 16-12 and Mirage 16-6), claiming a place in the Major.

Renegades earned themselves the number one seed at the London Major though by exacting revenge against TyLoo in the Asia Minor final. Renegades won 16-12 on Train and 16-8 on Inferno, with Norweigian star Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad shining brightest among the team at 21 kills per map and a large number of crucial impact frags.

TyLoo and Renegades join compLexity Gaming, Rogue Gaming, HellRaisers, and Team Spirit as New Challengers in the first stage of Valve’s $1 million event from September 5 to 9. The final two Challenger teams of the FACEIT Major will be decided this weekend at the European Minor.
