When Luminosity announced it had benched star Call of Duty player Peirce “Gunless” Hillman late last night, not many thought the team to be able to beat OpTic Gaming, one of the best teams in the world. And they were right.
With their coach, Richard “Ricky” Stacy, filling in for Gunless, Luminosity were swept by OpTic in three games. Despite the quick defeat, however, LG appeared to play better today than they have in most of their recent matches in the CWL Pro League.
In the first game, Frequency Hardpoint, Luminosity lost by just two points after failing to break the game’s final hill. As they have most of the last month, Luminosity lost the next Search and Destroy as well to go down two games in the series.
And while Luminosity pushed OpTic to a fifth round on Frequency Control, they were unable to take a map off of Division A’s best team. The loss is LG’s 13th of the season and their eighth loss in a row. OpTic has been about the complete opposite of LG—this was their seventh consecutive win and their 10th win out of their last 11 matches.
In the other three matches today, Team Reciprocity completed an undefeated week with a thrilling five-game win over Evil Geniuses, while FaZe Clan and UYU secured victories over Midnight and Gen.G, respectively.
