Griffin AD carry Viper finds the first pentakill of the 2019 LCK season

Never count Griffin out.

Only just starting its second week of play, the LCK 2019 Spring Split has already seen its first pentakill of the year, and from none other than Griffin AD carry Park “Viper” Do-hyeon.

“To be honest I’m not extremely happy. I was just like ‘yeah, I get to pick up all the kills and then we win the game,'” Viper said in the post-game interview. “Sword was telling me to get the penta kill. I wasn’t aware of it [at the time], but I got to pick up the delicious penta kill in the end.”

While getting a pentakill in itself is an impressive feat, the way in which Viper and Griffin earned the five-man multikill was unbelievable. Against one of the hottest teams in the league in Hanwha Life Esports, Griffin began today’s match horribly, accruing a 9,000 gold deficit. Griffin’s Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong, who many consider to be the best jungler in the world, had fallen behind Hanwha Life jungler Kim “bonO” Gi-beom, which in turn caused Griffin to also lag behind.

But Griffin aren’t considered to be Korea’s most dangerous team without reason. Time and time again Griffin have shown that they could find the miracle a teamfight in the most perilous of situations—a feat they pulled off against Hanwha Life last night.

Acing Hanwha Life seemingly out of nowhere, Griffin took the Baron, and were suddenly in control of the game. In a matter of one minute, Griffin turned what looked to be a lost game into yet another win, capping off the game with the first LCK pentakill of the year.

Going on to win game two in a convincing manner, Griffin ended the night with the match win over Hanwha Life, rising to first place in the league’s rankings. Griffin will try to extend their winstreak to four on Jan. 25, when they face off against DAMWON Gaming.
