Diablo 4 Rite of Passage: What should you inscribe into the wood?

Perfectionists are in shambles.

Regardless of what class you’ve chosen in Diablo 4, you’ll get to complete various quests while progressing through the game. While you can always take your time and complete them with friends, some challenges require players to do some research, especially if they don’t have clear explainers.

The Rite of Passage quest in Diablo 4 is one such example. It requires players to inscribe a word into a piece of wood, but the game doesn’t provide much further context as far as which option to choose.

Rite of Passage starts shortly after players are introduced to Lorath. Based on the lore, the inscription is supposed to be a sin that players are trying to cleanse. Given the number of available options, it’s difficult to pick one, especially if you think your choice might impact anything else in the game.

Here’s everything you need to know about what to inscribe into the wood during the Rite of Passage quest in Diablo 4.

How to finish the Holy Cedar Tablet inscription in Diablo 4’s Rite of Passage quest

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what you inscribe into the Holy Cedar Tablet. Players can pick any of the offered inscriptions, and it will still allow them to finish the Rite of Passage quest without impacting the storyline. I have tried them all on separate characters and can confirm this to be true. The options are:

  • Inscribe “Fear” into the wood.
  • Inscribe “Anger” into the wood.
  • Inscribe “Pride” into the wood.
  • Inscribe “Greed” into the wood.
  • Inscribe nothing but scribbles into the wood.

Regardless of which one you choose, you’ll still receive 880 experience and 300 gold and the story will continue without any alterations. My advice would be to pick the one that resonates with you the most and throw the wood into the fire. Afterward, you’ll be granted access to Kyovashad, where the story will continue.
