Popular VTuber CodeMiko gets struck by Twitch ban hammer once again

This is her fifth ban on the platform.

Twitch’s spunky, comedic VTuber CodeMiko was dealt a suspension on Twitch today. The discipline marks her fifth time being banned on the platform.

The streamer did not disclose the length of her suspension, but she did tell fans on her Discord server what the platform’s reasoning was. In most ban situations, only the streamer’s perspective is obtainable because Twitch does not provide comment on specific disciplinary measures taken out on streamers.

Putting it plain and simple, Miko posted to her fans saying, “it’s cuz of the shock collar.”

In her most recent stream on Sunday, Feb. 26, CodeMiko played a game that is popular among Just Chatting streamers called “you laugh, you lose.” The game requires participants to watch a YouTube compilation of humorous or surprising clips, and the goal of the game is to keep a straight face throughout the video. The only real rule of the game is in its title.

To add a layer of spice to the game, Miko put extra pressure on herself by implementing a shock collar. If she laughed during a clip, she was required to shock herself with the shock collar. The use of a shock collar on herself breaks one of Twitch’s community guidelines under the “Safety” section.

“Twitch does not allow content that glorifies, promotes, or encourages self-harm,” the guidelines read. “We also prohibit activity that may endanger your life, lead to your physical harm, or encourage others to engage in physically harmful behavior.”

The CodeMiko persona is known for being among the more risque on the platform. The VTuber’s most recent ban before today came after a stream titled “CODEMIKO MIGHT GET BANNED TODAY.” During that broadcast, the animated character was naked on stream, with pixelation censoring her breasts, torso, and genitals.

That specific ban came nearly eight months ago in June and lasted just one day. Her longest ban came in January 2021 when she was suspended for 14 days. She told viewers at the time that her 14-day ban was for breaking Twitch’s Terms of Service regarding privacy. She said that she displayed an email on stream about female harassment online that showed someone’s information that she was not allowed to share.

Update Feb. 28 11:45am CT: This article was updated with new information shared by CodeMiko about her ban.
