The wrongly-banned in Fortnite are receiving justice in the form of in-game currency. Developer Epic Games has begun unbanning accounts that shouldn’t have been banned in the first place. And if getting your account back isn’t a prize in and of itself, unbanned players are getting 2,000 V-Bucks in damages.
A Reddit user and wrongly-banned Fortnite player posted the update to the Fortnite: Battle Royale subreddit last night. “We incorrectly banned your account,” a note from Epic reads. “We’re sorry and will be granting V-Bucks to your account to compensate for the error.”

The amount of V-Bucks awarded, 2,000, is roughly equivalent to $20. Epic Games confirmed to Dot Esports that this practice was ongoing, but said that it couldn’t share further details—like how it’s determining who to unban. Lots of players in Fortnite have been complaining about being wrongly-banned, whether it be for suspicious behavior or being accused of cheating.
Naturally, there’s a lot of jokes on the Reddit post about the Fortnite player accused of cheating by Tyler “Ninja” Blevins. This week, the popular streamer got eliminated by a player who emoted after the kill. Ninja reported him for what he suspected was stream sniping. Ninja’s reaction has become a meme. (Of course the player who eliminated Ninja didn’t actually get banned.)
There’s no real word on how the unbans are rolling out—if they’re coming in waves or just happening randomly. But if your Fortnite account was banned for a reason you consider unjust, check your account. You could have 2,000 V-Bucks waiting for you. And that’s, like, a whole new skin!
