When PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds first announced cosmetic loot boxes during the game’s early access period back in August, the developers insisted that the money would be going to the right place.
Today PUBG Corp has followed through on that promise, and will be donating $2 million to multiple charity organizations. Extra Life and Gamers Outreach will be the first two recipients, while a third additional charity campaign will take place later in 2018.
When the gamescom crates were announced in August, PUBG Corp explained that revenue would go to organizing the PUBG gamescom tournament, providing a prize pool for the winners, and charities. The gamescom tournament happened later in the month and the prizes were awarded, and now the final promise has been fulfilled.
On top of that, a charity marathon will take place next week on the official PUBG Twitch channel in support of Extra Life, which raises money for sick kids in the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital System.
The stream will run continuously from Jan. 28 at 11pm CT and running all the way through Feb. 2 at 10:59pm CT. A number of notable PUBG streamers and personalities will be live on the channel.
PUBG Corp says that $300,000 will be donated directly to Extra Life, with additional donations being taken throughout the week via the PUBG Extra Life fundraiser.
