With its party-themed gameplay and cartoony graphics, MultiVersus seems like a perfect game for Nintendo Switch, doesn’t it? But will Warner Brothers’ brawler make its way to Nintendo’s hybrid consoles?
Here’s everything we know about MultiVersus coming to Nintendo Switch.
Is MultiVersus coming to Nintendo Switch?
No, MultiVersus will not be coming to Nintendo Switch on day one, and it doesn’t seem likely it ever will. When the game came out in early access, many people wondered if it would eventually make its way to Switch, but the developer said it doesn’t have any plans.
One X (formerly Twitter) user flat-out asked Tony Huynh, the development lead and PFG co-founder if the game would ever make its way to Nintendo Switch. He replied that the developer simply doesn’t have the resources in the short term.
While this could change in the future, Nintendo Switch users won’t get to enjoy MultiVersus for the time being.
Why isn’t MultiVersus coming to Nintendo Switch?
There are two main reasons why MultiVersus won’t be coming on Nintendo Switch:
- Technical Limitations
- Competition
First and foremost, MultiVersus has shifted from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. The new Engine is too much for Nintendo Switch to handle and get a steady framerate and performance. Not to mention, Nintendo Switch isn’t known for having a really stable Internet connection during online play (especially cross-platform play), so perhaps the developer doesn’t want to bother with Nintendo Switch’s limitations.
The second reason is probably a no-brainer if you’re a fan of Nintendo, but MultiVersus would have some steep competition on the Switch. I’m, of course, talking about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Even though the game costs $59.99 (as opposed to MultiVersus being free-to-play), SSBU fans are unlikely to switch (no pun intended) to a similar game. It makes a lot more sense to bring MultiVersus to platforms other than Nintendo Switch that don’t have a dominant party-brawler other than smaller indie games such as Brawlhalla.
