The Game Awards 2015: eSports Recap

Last night, the Video Game Awards 2015 were held, and many eSports-related category titles -- eSports Game of the Year, eSports Player of the Year, and eSports Team of the Year -- were up for grabs.

Last Thursday night, the Video Game Awards 2015 were held, and many eSports-related category titles – eSports Game of the Year, eSports Player of the Year, and eSports Team of the Year – were up for grabs. Fans around the world were able to vote online for the game, player and team that they thought deserved 2015’s award.

This past year, Counter-Strike®: Global Offensive has blown up to become one of the biggest eSports titles to date, with a lot of developer support, great fans, and amazing LAN events, it seems like Counter-Strike will not be going anywhere for a long time with as much support as it gets. It is no surprise that this title won eSports Game of the Year for 2015.

OpTic Gaming is undoubtedly one of the most supported gaming teams on the planet. With some of the most die-hard fans on social media, it was no surprise that they’d gain a tremendous, well-deserved advantage over some of the teams like The International 2015 titleholders Evil Geniuses and League of Legends World Championship winners SK Telecom T1.The OpTic roster consists of Seth “Scumpii” Abner, Ian “Crimsix” Porter, Damon “Karma” Barlow, and Matthew “FormaL” Piper, who appeared in 16 of 17 grand finals during Call of Duty®: Advanced Warfare.

Team EnVyUs’ Counter-Strike team has found much recent success after a trade with Titan earlier this year to get their hands on Kenny “KennyS” Schrub. KennyS is the best AWPer in the pro circuit for Counter-Strike, and many would say he has been one of the most standout players of 2015. As a result, he won the Best Player of the Year award for eSports.
