San Francisco Shock trades Danteh for GGEA’s Smurf

Houston Outlaws needed a Tracer player.

Two Overwatch League teams announced a two-player trade last night. San Francisco Shock has traded Dante “Danteh” Cruz for OpTic Gaming’s Yoo “smurf” Myeong-hwan.

Smurf was previously on GG Esports Academy, Houston Outlaws’ Overwatch Contenders team. He’ll play for Shock, and Danteh will play for the Outlaws.

Danteh rose to prominence in the Overwatch League for his Tracer play, which is something Houston general manager Matt Rodriquez said the team needed. Danteh also plays Sombra at a high level. Smurf joins Shock as a tank player, which is an roll that the team needed to fill after dropping David “nomy” Ramirez in August.

“I hope  you guys can continue to support me on Outlaws,” Danteh wrote in a TwitLonger post. “It really sucks that I have to leave my family, but I think business-wise, it pleases everyone. Really helps Shock, Outlaws, and my personal career. Ultimately, I think this trade is the most beneficial thing for my career. I’m hoping to really help Outlaws and I’m looking forward to playing with the team.”

The Overwatch League’s off-season is ongoing. A free agent signing window is only open to the eight expansion teams at this time, but trades across inaugural season teams are acceptable. The exclusive free agent singing period continues until Oct. 8. On that date, all teams can sign free agents. All Overwatch League teams must have eight players signed by Dec. 1.

A start date for season two hasn’t been announced.
