KEEMSTAR considering hosting a charity Madden tournament for Jacksonville victims

Details on the potential event are still scarce.

YouTuber Daniel “KEEMSTAR” Keem, the man behind popular weekly esports tournaments like Friday Fortnite and the KEEMSTAR $100,000 Realm Royale series, is looking into running an online Madden tournament to raise money for the victims of the recent Jacksonville shooting.

Two people were killed by a lone gunman at the Madden Championship Series southeast qualifier on Aug. 26. Following the shooting, EA cancelled the remaining qualifying events scheduled for September. Details surrounding the October live finals in Las Vegas have not been confirmed at this time. Those who qualified for the event were expected to battle it out for a share of the $165,000 prize pool.

KEEMSTAR’s plans for the charity event would see fans donate to the total prize pool, with half of the money going towards the Madden community and the other half going to victims of the shooting.

Details about the potential event are scarce at this time, with KEEMSTAR only stating that the tournament would be online.

In the aftermath of the attack in Jacksonville, many organizers have looked to boost security for their own events over the next year. Evo, the largest fighting game tournament in the world, was the first to announce new safety measures and will now have metal detectors for every day of the 2019 event.

PAX West officials have also issued a security statement following the incident, stating that the organization is working with private security and the Seattle Police Department to identity further risks ahead of the event on Aug. 31.

We will update this article if KEEMSTAR releases more details about the charity tournament.
