The three-day event was held at the O2 Arena in London this year, bringing together 32 of the best players from across the globe for a chance to win the $250,000 grand prize. Over 20 million players from 60 countries battled it out in competitive FIFA this season, according to the announcement, but only one could emerge victorious.

The winner was Mosaad “Msdossary” Aldossary from Saudi Arabia. He earned the grand prize and an invite to the Best FIFA Football Awards later in the year.

The 29 million views represent a 400-percent increase in digital viewership over last year’s event and double the viewership of the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series Playoffs held in Amsterdam from May 28 to June 3.

“The power of real-world sports and esports is a massive multiplier, and this year’s increase in online viewership is indicative of this power coming to life.” Todd Sitrin, General Manager and Senior Vice President Competitive Gaming Division at EA SPORTS, said in the announcement. “We’ve dramatically accelerated the growth of competitive gaming through the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series and this year’s Grand Final, rallying the global football community together within this singular ecosystem that we know will only grow in the seasons to come.”

The peak viewership for the event was an estimated 322,000 people watching across 12 digital platforms, in addition to the 19 broadcasters covering the event over 60 territories. Official numbers from the broadcasts will be revealed at a later date.
