The Copenhagen Wolves were fined $1,000 last night after Riot Games discovered they violated a League Championship Series rule during the Summer season.
The team added Karim “Airwaks” Benghalia and Paweł “Woolite” Pruski to fill their jungle and marksman positions 10 days before the start of the Summer season on May 20, a move approved by Riot Games pending a resolution of their contract situation—the players were signed to contracts with invalid termination dates.
Wolves agreed to comply, but were apparently lax in doing so. The players were never signed to valid contracts until June, nearly two weeks after the start of the LCS.
That put the team in violation of LCS rule 3.2: “All Starters must have a written contract with the team they are playing for.”
As Riot put it, “it is unacceptable for LCS organizations to field players without contracts during their LCS matches.”
Riot learned of the violation on Sept. 14, two weeks before levying the fine.
