With the second of Dota‘s new circuit majors—and the first of 2016—just over six weeks away, we now know the 16 teams who will make up the field.
With eight teams invited directly to the Shanghai Major, eight places were also up for grabs in qualifiers for teams from across the globe.
The International winners Evil Geniuses, Frankfurt Major winners OG, runners up Team Secret, TI3 winners Alliance and Russian side Virtus.pro all received direct invitations to the event.
The Chinese qualifier spots were grabbed by TI5 third place finishes LGD Gaming and TI4 winners Newbee. EHOME, CDEC Gaming and Vici Gaming were also directly invited, giving China the largest regional contingent at the event.
Team Archon took first place in the North American qualifier, with CompLexity Gaming also earning a spot. They will be joined by Team Liquid and Team Spirit from Europe, and Fnatic and MVP Pheonix from Asia.
The 16 teams will battle it out over five days for a prize pool of $3 million, with OG and Evil Geniuses considered the heavy favorites to take their second titles in six months.
