CLG end Immortals’ winning streak

One of the longest winning streaks in competitive League of Legends history has come to an end.

North American League Championship Series (LCS) newcomer Immortals lost their first game ever today against league veteran Counter Logic Gaming. The loss ended Immortals 12-game winning streak this split.

Immortals support Adrian “Adrian” Ma predicted in an interview several weeks ago that if his team were to lose a game to another NA team, it would be to Counter Logic—who, like Immortals, are one of the top five teams in the league this year.

In the game, Counter Logic’s top laner Darshan “Darshan” Upadhyaya and Jake “Xmithie” Puchero had incredible performances on Fiora and Udyr respectively. Upadhyaya showed why he’s still one of the best top laners in the region due to proper laning and good teamfighting, while Puchero showed immense improvement since joining the team two years ago through good map control and solid ganks.

But the big advantage for Counter Logic came after their entire team pressured Immortals top laner and star Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon, choking his resources and killing him four times in the process. This likely led Seung-hoon to perform poorly, similar to several of his performances at the 2015 World Championship with his previous team Fnatic.

From there, Immortals was unable to bounce back, with Counter Logic ending the game after 42 minutes of playtime—and a Baron steal.

Immortals now-broken winning streak goes down as the third longest winning streak in LCS history. In summer of 2013, Cloud9 won 13 games in a row in the middle of the split. In the European LCS, Fnatic went undefeated with an 18-game winning streak last summer.
