NRG builds new CS:GO roster around ptr and FugLy

North American esports organization NRG has unveiled its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster for 2017.

Peter “ptr” Gurney and Jacob “FugLy” Medina are the only two players remaining on the squad from its 2016 lineup. The two are joined by Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte, Omar “MarkE” Jimenez, and Damian “daps” Steele.

Things didn’t go completely according to plan for NRG in 2016, as the team struggled to achieve any noteworthy results throughout the year. At best, the team reached the semifinals of the second season of Counter Pit League in March, and the iBUYPOWER Fall Invitational in September.

This complete overhaul of the roster means that former in-game leader Fatih “gob b” Dayik and star player Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz are teamless heading into 2017. According to a report by Slingshot Esports, gob b, tabseN and Nikola “LEGIJA” Ninic were looking to acquire the services of German player Kevin “keev” Bartholomäus in order to establish a mostly German-speaking roster. However, the deal never materialized.

The same report by Slingshot Esports also broke the news that NRG would be removing its newly-recruited CS:GO GM and coach Luis “peacemaker” Tadeu just three weeks after being hired. With these issues surrounding the team, 2017 looks to be a hard year for NRG CS:GO.
