The final European teams competing at the upcoming $450,000 DreamHack Masters Las Vegas event were decided last night, but a shocking upset saw one of the qualifier’s favorites knocked out of contention.
By the end of the closed qualifier, Fnatic, mousesports, Gambit, and FaZe Clan stood as victors and now join the impressive cadre of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams that will be attending the event. With teams like Virtus pro, Astralis, OpTic Gaming, SK Gaming, and North attending, DreamHack Masters Las Vegas is shaping up to be one of the most stacked events to take place following the conclusion of the ELEAGUE Major on Jan. 29.
Despite the four qualifying teams’ best efforts, the big talking point of the evening was GODSENT. The Swedish roster, which includes three of the Fnatic players that competed during the organization’s dominance, recently showed incredible promise at the ELEAGUE Major qualifiers this past month. Winning all three of their games, the team left the qualifiers undefeated, and secured a spot at the upcoming ELEAGUE Major in emphatic fashion.
But despite their impressive showing in Atlanta, GODSENT suffered a shocking defeat in last night’s qualifier, as the team was eliminated by underdogs Pride. Hailing from Poland, the roster defeated GODSENT by a 2-1 map score in what could be argued was Pride’s most significant match yet.
Heading into their final match against Gambit, Pride looked impressive and scored a map win on Overpass. The veterans on Gambit fought back, however, and eventually eliminated the Polish underdogs in a brutal 16-6 performance on dust2.
Despite being one game shy of qualifying, Pride made a statement in yesterday’s games. The same can be said for GODSENT, who keep showing flashes of brilliance only to disappoint at the most important moments.
