Quake Champions is adding bots so you can actually play the game

Because it's getting harder and harder to find players.

If you typically have difficulty finding other people to play with when you jump on Quake Champions, know that you’re not alone. That’s all about to go away, thanksfully, as developer id Software has confirmed that AI bots are in the works for the game, though there’s no ETA for when we can expect them. That’s great news since it can take up to 10 or 15 minutes sometimes when attempting to join a game.

Bots will fill the empty slots on player teams so you can jump right into fragging enemies quicker, but you can use them as training aids as well. Though they won’t be able to use Champion abilities when they’re launched, they’ll be able to act essentially like other human players. That way if you need to brush up on your Quake skills, you can play with non-hacking and arena-clipping bots. They can strafe jump, trick jump and plenty more across Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Instagib modes, with additional modes for them later on.

Id Software is also working on changing up the game’s gore mechanics, with a video on Twitter showing how much bloodier the game’s going to get. The new system will find different body parts hurtling through the air as you brandish different weapons and start going to town on your enemies. The name of the game is ludicrous gibs, of course, and it looks, well, ludicrous.

Now if the game can just get more people playing, it’ll be off to a great start. Here’s hoping those bots are playable offline, too.
