Damwon Gaming and JDG are moving on to the quarterfinals of the 2020 League of Legends World Championship after taking down PSG Talon and Rogue, respectively, today.
While Damwon were seen as the favorites to secure the first seed out of Group B, the second spot was seemingly up for discussion between either JDG or Rogue. But JDG took the edge by defeating Rogue twice to ensure that they’d get out of the group and advance to the next stage.
The remaining matches today for Group B will decide if there will be a tiebreaker for first place between Damwon and JDG. The first seed should be important for either team to get so they can avoid playing other No. 1 teams, like Top Esports in Group D, who’s one of the favorites to win this year’s World Championship.
With these results Rogue’s and PSG Talon’s competitive seasons have come to an end. They were put in one of the strongest groups and both were seen as dark horses who could potentially take some games off Damwon or JDG. But, in the end, they’ve been eliminated from Worlds 2020 in the group stage.
Yesterday, G2 and Suning qualified for the knockout stage of Worlds from Group A. This weekend’s matches will determine the four other teams to join G2, Suning, Damwon, and JDG in the quarterfinals of Worlds 2020.
