Team Liquid remain tied for first place in the NA LCS standings after a huge comeback victory over Golden Guardians.

In one of the most exciting matches of the Summer Split, today’s bout between Team Liquid and Golden Guardians began horribly for NA’s Spring Split champions.

Golden Guardians’ bot lane looked ready to snowball the game three minutes in using the popular Heimerdinger and Fiddlesticks champion combo. Team Liquid, who had already given up first blood in the mid lane, messed up a gank in the bot lane, which gave Golden Guardians’ Heimerdinger and Fiddlesticks three free kills.

With Heimerdinger prone to snowball when given early kills, Team Liquid knew they had to do something quick—or else they’d fall even further behind. Team Liquid’s answer to the now fed Heimerdinger, though, was non-stop action.

Heimerdinger couldn’t pressure bot lane and continue to grow his lead if skirmishes were constantly occurring around him. And although they weren’t able to win every fight, Team Liquid’s strategy allowed them to get enough kills to return the gold score back to even. With the better scaling composition, Team Liquid wanted to head into the mid game even in gold.

As the game progressed, Team Liquid’s composition of Gangplank and Varus eventually outscaled Golden Guardian’s set of champions—and thus Team Liquid quickly won more and more fights. Golden Guardians’ only saving grace was their top laner, Samson “Lourlo” Jackson, who salvaged lost teamfights with his Gnar ultimates.

But even perfect multi-man Gnar ultimates from Lourlo weren’t enough to take down Team Liquid once they acquired both the Baron and Elder Drake.

Now with a 7-4 record, Team Liquid will look to crush Clutch Gaming on July 29.
