LGD ended up on a losing streak during the group stages, disappointing fans and Chinese viewers.
This team became virtually unrecognizable–whether it’s pick and ban, or the players’ mindsets, there are a lot of problems.
After the group stages, our reporter conducted an interview with LGD’s group leader–Xiao Mo. He admitted that there were problems in handling the players–and there were problems in pick and ban. At the same time, he emphasized that the players won’t just give up–as long as there’s hope, they’ll rough it out until the end.
Hi Xiao Mo. We’re really happy you’ve accepted this interview. Let’s get to it. LGD lost three games in a row. How are the players’ mentalities?
Xiao Mo: After losing three games, all the players had pretty up and down feelings. We held a really long meeting. We comforted the players, but at the same time, we encouraged them not to give up. They’ll play every upcoming game like it’s the last of our career.
What kind of conclusion did you come to after the meeting? Where were the problems–and what kind of changes do you have to make?
Xiao Mo: We knew there were a lot of problems. Holding the meeting was to make sure we were more aware of them. This includes: how to stop EU/NA lane swaps and fast push strategies, fixing up the tiny details of our lane swaps, and fixing our understanding of pick and ban. In these five days, I hope our team can fix these problems.
A lot of fans have called into question your pick and ban. What do you have to say about it?
Xiao Mo: Each team has its own pick and ban strategy. Sometimes, an individual’s understanding of the meta and over confidence can cost the team. We were on blue side for the last two games. We were countered by red side’s last pick. This means we need to better understand the game and fix our lane swaps and employ different strategies so that our lanes can win. We lost because we didn’t plan things out well. In the third game, we managed to pick some really strong champions on this patch. But we weren’t able to execute our composition–there were too many mistakes made.
How have scrims been over these two days? How have the players’ mentalities been?
Xiao Mo: Right now, scrims are going okay. Our scrim results are still inconsistent, but at least we’re heading in the right direction. We still need to practice more. We’ll want to reduce our mistakes to a minimum. We don’t have a lot of time, but we still treasure our time here. As a professional gamer, you play a lot of competitive games–and you end up with a lot of accomplishments. Before this, we were in a lot of difficult predicaments. Our confidence and mentality won’t break so suddenly. Right now, all the players have adjusted themselves–and they’re devoted to dedicating all their energy to practice.
Lastly–I’m sure LGD is aware that the future look grim. How do the players feel?
Xiao Mo: Everyone understands the circumstances we’re in. We definitely won’t give up. We’ll fight until the end. No regrets.
