Recently, Valve announced the release of their newest engine which will be more powerful than the source engine previously released by Valve. However, this new engine has raised a lot of debate in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community. The first question that surfaced was  would Valve possibly release a brand new Counter Strike game to replace CS:GO. This is highly unlikely as the last time they released a new game, Counter Strike: Source, the community was split. Part wouldn’t budge and stuck with the original Counter Strike, whereas the rest moved on to the new and improved Counter Strike: Source.

In addition CS:GO isn’t showing any signs of slowing its audience growth. In the past two years, CS:GO has blown up and become one of the most popular games on Steam. Which Valve is certainly fine with.

The other question that people are asking is, will CS:GO or any other Valve games be getting a port on the new Source Two engine? Most people feel that it will not, as CS:GO already looks good enough and works perfectly well with the original Source engine. Creating a port of the game would only cause more debate and may even split the community again.

Jay Stelly from Valve had this to say about the new Source Two: “The value of a platform like the PC is how much it increases the productivity of those who use the platform. With Source 2, our focus is increasing creator productivity. Given how important user generated content is becoming, Source 2 is designed not for just the professional developer, but enabling gamers themselves to participate in the creation and development of their favorite games. We will be making Source 2 available for free to content developers.”

‘Vulkan’ was also announced at GDC 2015 and is an open, cross-vendor, cross-platform 3D graphics API for high-efficiency access to graphics on a number of GPUs. This will greatly enhance gaming experiences for everyone and will aid developers in creating their games. At GDC it was announced that Source 2 will be available for free to everyone and will also include a Vulkan-compatible version.
