Gen.G hand SK Telecom T1 their second loss of the week

Please SKT, never put Faker on Taric again.

Gen.G added another win to their LCK Summer Split record with an overwhelming victory over SK Telecom T1.

Since the league resumed play earlier this week, SKT has tried its best to embrace the gameplay changes spurred from patch 8.11. In their match against Afreeca Freecs last Wednesday, SKT weren’t afraid to abandon the previous meta and play the more wacky picks running rampant in solo queue. From top lane Darius to a quasi role-swap between mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and AD carry Bae “Bang” Jun-sik to secure a counter matchup, SKT’s strategies reflected the current meta perfectly.

But even with a keen sense of the current game-state, SKT faltered against Afreeca due to an inability to execute their strategies. That issue reappeared against Gen.G.

After getting outpaced by Afreeca on Wednesday, SKT decided to craft aggressive drafts around jungler Park “Blossom” Beom-chan. In game one SKT almost immediately first picked Rengar for Blossom in response to Gen.G’s Xin Zhao. But despite having so much priority in the draft phase, Blossom was unable to deliver on the Pridestalker. Instead of finding picks, it was Blossom who found himself the one caught out multiple times. And the rest of SKT were right alongside Blossom, overextending due to what looked to be due to a lack of communication.

Instead of making alterations to their strategy, SKT double downed on Blossom, and created a game two composition focused entirely on the jungler’s Master Yi. But like game one, this plan crumbled. Gen.G kept complete control over Blossom’s Master Yi with their crowd control heavy team. And with Faker on the poverty stricken supportive Taric, the team could not rely on their ace to make a game changing play.

Although SKT’s week one is now completed after this loss, Gen.G will face MVP on June 17.
