Turtle Beach has unveiled a brand new lineup of gaming headsets made for the Nintendo Switch that has been specifically made to work with Fortnite.
Fortnite on Switch is one of few titles that has in-game voice chat functionality, removing the need for gamers to use the Nintendo Online Mobile app on their smartphones. The app is required to use voice chat with some of Nintendo’s own properties, like Splatoon 2.
“Epic Games bringing their own in-game chat system to the Switch with Fortnite is a brilliant move,” Juergen Stark, CEO, Turtle Beach, said in the announcement. “Epic’s bold move seemingly opens the doors for developers of future online multiplayer titles coming to Nintendo Switch to follow their lead and implement in-game chat systems, which is great news overall for Nintendo, for Turtle Beach, and most importantly…for gamers.”
Turtle Beach has confirmed that 25 headsets from its current product lineup, which include wired and wireless headsets, are now fully compatible with the Fortnite Switch version.
Alongside the current models available, Turtle Beach also announced two new products at this year’s E3 that will be compatible with the game including the Recon 200 and Stealth 300 headsets.
Fortnite for Switch was confirmed during Nintendo’s E3 press conference on June 12, but not without controversy. Switch owners who had an Epic Games account linked to a PS4 were forced to create a new account if they wanted to play on the system due to Sony’s cross-play stance. That meant that Fortnite players looking to play on Switch lost all their progress and items that they may have bought on other platforms.
