Is this cryptic Overwatch image a new map or hero clue?

We break down what it could mean.
This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

The camera’s frame doesn’t move. There’s no Overwatch heroes, no moving characters—just steam from a vent, a soccer ball, and some posters.

Blizzard posted a cryptic image to the Overwatch Twitter account this afternoon. It’s titled “Posters,” with the caption “Calm before the storm.” Almost nothing is posted to the Overwatch Twitter without a reason; Blizzard often sticks clues for upcoming releases into mysterious images scattered throughout its social media. The image posted today means something, but its up to fans to figure out what.

Related: Blizzard could be teasing Hammond as the next Overwatch hero

There are a few things to note with the Overwatch image—the posters and the audio, specifically. Blizzard could be teasing a new map or a new hero. Some are speculating that the monkey shown in the posters is Hammond, one of the primates that once lived on the moon. We learned after the Horizon Lunar Colony rework that Hammond likely escaped off the moon by hitching a ride with Winston.

There’s potential that the posters (there’s a Lúcio one, alongside the monkey one, an omnic poster, and another that might be a silhouette of the Junkertown Queen) are just baits—and that whatever’s coming is something we aren’t expecting. As for the potential map location, it’s not immediately clear, but some are speculating it could be set on Rialto or King’s Row. The audio is another area fans will want to investigate; almost nothing moves in the image, but Blizzard did choose for this to be a video clip.

Either way, the timeline adds up. New Overwatch heroes typically come out in July, following Overwatch’s established release schedule. (Both Ana and Doomfist released in July.) If Blizzard is following this schedule again, it’s likely we’re to see a new hint in the next couple days.
