Talon—Overwatch’s bad guys—has been confirmed responsible for Overwatch’s Numbani International Airport attack. They let out Doomfist. What does that mean? It means we might be about to—finally—see Doomfist arrive as a new hero. A new update posted to the Overwatch blog in the form of an in-game Times of Numbani news post confirmed that Talon’s attack was organized to free Akande Ogundimu, better known as Doomfist. Here’s what happened. Apparently, an unidentified aircraft approached the facility where Doomfist was being held—Helix Securities. The aircraft landed without trouble to reveal Reaper.
“The unidentified assailant easily overcame the Helix security agents, leaving over a dozen dead,” the report reads. “Medical records of the casualties reveal injuries and cellular degeneration matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper, all but confirming the incursion as a Talon attack.” It’s unclear whether anything—or anyone—else was taken from the security facility, but Times of Numbani sources suggest there were further security breaches. Doomfist then hit the Numbani International Airport, destroying the OR15 defense bots and reclaiming his namesake gauntlet. Since the Overwatch organization was shuttered, Helix Securities became the in-game world’s leading security force—but after Doomfist’s escape, many have questioned their effectiveness, the report says. Helix will, however, see increased funding from the United Nations to cope with the world’s “rising threats,” according to the report. Does Helix Securities sound familiar to you? That’s because it’s the security firm where Overwatch hero Pharah works as security chief. As more information about Doomfist emerges, we may learn more about Pharah, too. Where’s Doomfist now, however? Perhaps about to enter the Overwatch in-game universe. It might be sooner than we think: A Doomfist mention in Overwatch’s public test region recently sparked the hype train again, with fans thinking he might be coming in the next patch. The Times of Numbani report suggests that idea might be correct.
